Inscription on the Graves (Mikulov town)
Fantová, Růžena ; Janovec, Ladislav (advisor) ; Palkosková, Olga (referee)
The thesis describes all the inscriptions that one can see engraved into the gravestones on current cemeteries in Mikulov. We analyze the first and last names engraved into the gravestones but we focus primarily on epitaphs. In particular, we examine common epitaph themes, the number of their occurrences as well as linguistic errors that the inscriptions contain. In addition, we identify the most commonly quoted passages from the Bible, excerpts of poems, quotes of famous people and the time periods when they were most popular. Last but not least, we explore the symbolism and other nonverbal aspects of the gravestones. Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org)
The literary source of the inscription slab of the Žerotín Palace in Olomouc
Dolejší, Kateřina
This conference paper deals with Latin inscription on monumental sandstone slab of the Žerotín Palace in Olomouc. The large late Renaissance heraldic slab with ornamental cartouches was ordered around 1597 by the Moravian captain Fridrich the Elder from Žerotín. Fourteen line long moralizing Latin inscription is literal quote from the book Melodaesia sive Epulum Musaeum by neo-Latin poet Friedrich Taubmann from 1597.
Two „alternative“ epigraphic inventory acts and their significance for the study of sepulchral monuments
Roháček, Jiří
In 2011, a questionnaire inventory of epigraphic sources in the archives of the Czech Republic was carried out in cooperation with the Department of Archival Administration of the Ministry of the Interior of the Czech Republic and the Institute of Art History CAS. The integration of epigraphic and sepulchral monuments into one inventory is based on research practice. The publication is in print. The second inventory undertaking sets itself higher objectives both objectively and methodically. It is an epigraphic database of the Center of Epigraphic and Sepulchral Studies of the Institute of Art History CAS. The added value is consideration of the possibilities of application of digital humanities methods.
On sepulchral memory in an epigraphic campaign: The towns of Prague after the events of 1648
Roháček, Jiří
The more than four-month successful defense of the Old and New Towns of Prague against Swedish troops in 1648 was relatively small in the context of the Thirty Years' War, but a very important episode for Prague cities and to a large extent for Bohemia. In Prague we can observe the remains of a relevant, originally certainly much richer epigraphic campaign, which has two main directions - the first is connected with thanks to Virgin Mary as protector and intercessor of cities, the second with contextual presentation of improved coats of arm of Old and New Town. Surprising is, however, the absence of a larger sepulchral memorie of 219 fallen defenders. The only preserved monument is the epitaph of Václav Čabelický of Soutice in the Church of Our Lady before Týn. The figural epitaph is known for its rich heraldic and epigraphic accompaniment. This fact raises a number of questions about the position of sepulchral and epigraphic monuments in a collective memory.
Taxes to Caesar Mt 22,15-29
Jinková, Noemi ; Mrázek, Jiří (advisor) ; Roskovec, Jan (referee)
Do Jesus's words in Mt 22,21 mean that Christians are obliged to pay taxes? This thesis aims to answer the question mostly asked in the context of Mt 22,15-22, using not only a historical-critical method but also a dramatization of the narrative. It presupposes that the visualization of the text can bring insights that usually remain hidden. One important visual hint to the right meaning of the text is the costumes. They include liturgical straps, tfilin, which remind us that Jesus speaks - in an analogy with the Roman coin - not only about man as a God's image, but also about God's signature on a man. We see that Jesus's words proceed from the level of Creation - everybody was created into God's image - to the level of Election. God elected Israel to be his people. But in the Gospel, this at the same time is the point of transformation. Jesus himself, being asked a very tricky question, is the point of transformation. Being one of Israelites, he came to extend the election to all people again. The structure of concentration and consequent extension or release appears also in other contexts of the Gospel of Matthew. We see Jesus being socially captured and again released by other people or the linearity of the time of Jesus's earthly narrative being concentrated into one single year and consequently evolved...
